Sermon Title: “A Bad Day”

Sermon Text: Job 1:13-22

Are you having a bad day? At one time or another, we will all have “A Bad Day”. We see in Job 1:13-22 that Satan will attack various areas of our lives, including our families, finances and material possessions, and most importantly, our faith in GOD.

But Psalm 46:1 reminds us that “GOD is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” For we know that — like the life of Job shows us — troubles will come. JESUS says in St. Matthew 5:45 that our Father “maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” Job was a just man, who found favor in GOD’s sight, which made him a target to the adversary.

So, you ask… “Why should I follow CHRIST if I will still have to endure the storms of life?” … Great question, and you will find the answer in Psalm 46 verses 7 and 11. “The Lord of hosts is with us; the GOD of Jacob is our fortress.” If you were visiting a foreign country for the first time among people who speak a different language, it would be easier to navigate your way if you had a guide or a host. Similarly, if you were a soldier at war in enemy territory, how comforting would it be to find a “fortress” or a safe place away from flying bullets and other perils and pestilence?

GOD hides us under His Mighty Wings. Psalm 91:4 proves it. “[GOD] will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust. His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” So, in essence, Job was a righteous man who endured many trials, but GOD was with him through them all. And in the end, despite his “bad days,” Job received double for his trouble!

Even when the enemy is pressing us, and all the world seems upside down, praise The LORD. Give glory to GOD, for He is a just and righteous Lord.
